We have just been notified that our own professor Francisco Fernandez-Lima has been awarded a NSF Career Award. The project is entitled: "CAREER: Development of Gas-phase, Post-ionization Structural Tools for the Study of DNA-protein Complexes," This is indeed an achievement. Organometallic chemist honored for his efforts to activate carbon-hydrogen bonds. Robert Bergman has won the 2017 Wolf Prize in Chemistry. Bergman is the Gerald E.K. Branch Distinguished Professor of Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley. The prize is given out by the Israel-based Wolf Foundation to honor achievements in medicine, mathematics, physics, chemistry, and the arts. Professor Bergman was also the Ph.D. mentor of our own Konstantinos Kavallieratos.
On Friday, March 31st, Dr. Sourav Saha, Clemson University will visit FIU to present a seminar entitled, "Stimuli-Responsive Functional Materials".
Dr. Slava Bryanstev, of ORNL, will visit FIU to present a seminar entitled, "Using theory to guide ligand design for chemical separations of f-block metal ions: Extraction of uranium from seawater, partitioning of minor actinides from high-level waste, and separation of adjacent lanthanides."
Dr. Catherine Costello, of Boston University, will visit FIU to present a seminar to graduate students enrolled in CHM6935. Title: TBA
