The International Carotenoid Society (ICS) will this year celebrate a half century since the inception of its International Symposium on Carotenoids event, to be held 9 – 14 July in Lucerne, Switzerland. Our own Provessor Landrum is the President of the International Carotenoid Society.

Furton and Abuzar Kabir of the College of Arts, Sciences and Education who collaborated on research which has led to patents with the potential to revolutionize the multi-billion dollar sample preparation and analytical testing industry.
A new method developed at FIU makes toxicological, biological and environmental sampling and testing cheaper, faster, and more sensitive. The new technology, which has been independently validated, promises to disrupt a multi-billion-dollar industry.
Two FIU Chemistry Students, Marcela Jaramillo and Gabriela Goldberg were awarded the Prestigious National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. Ms Jaramillo was featured in the current FIU News.
At the 2017 Florida Annual Meeting and Exposition, three Emerging Young Investigators of the American Chemical Society were highlighted: Dr. Yan-Yan Hu from FSU, Dr. Francisco Fernandez-Lima from FIU, and Dr. Eugene DePrince from FSU. These young investigators are being recognized for their early independent work, which is quickly gaining recognition in their respective fields.
